Statistics in OJS

Open Journal Systems provide readership data in a few different ways. This guide will walk you through the steps to downloading a spreadsheet that can be sorted to see readership stats by issue.

Google Analytics can also help to provide more detailed data about your readers, like average time spent on the page and scrolling information. OJS data is generally limited to Abstract Views and Total Downloads.

Step 1: On the main OJS Submission screen, hover over the "Statistics" sidebar and then click on "Report Generator"

The "Statistics > Articles" screen hosts an interactive graph which is a very good visual representation of readership over a given period of time.

Step 2: Select the "View Report" link towards the bottom of the page. A spreadsheet of your data will then begin to download.

The other reports here generally have to do with the article submission and review process. The "View Report" can be a little misleading as this is not describing the command you want, but rather this is the type of report; a report of all of the total views.

Step 3: After you select the "View Report" a spreadsheet will download with the following headers:

Every article has an ID that is unique to that specific article - this is listed in the first column, if you check the URL in any article, you will see this ID at the end.
This column lists the name of the article.
You can sort by Issue to see statistics for articles from a specific Issue.
The Date Published column is automatically generated when your articles published.
Abstract views represent the amount of times users and readers have viewed your abstract page for a given article.
Total Galley Views and PDFs represent the same data - this is the amount of time this article has been downloaded.
