# ¶ Introduction to Video Editing

### What is Video Editing?

Editing is the assembling of media (video, images, and audio) into a structure that tells a story, presents instructional information, and the like. It is both a technical and creative process that is similar to writing, for it requires similar organizational skills as well as creative thinking. Let’s look at an editing project to get a sense of what editing looks like in iMovie (see [iMovie tutorials](/multimedia/tutorials/imovie.md)).
