Let's now look at the same video through the lens of some editing concepts and techniques.

Video Commentary

Concepts:

  • Tone, meaning the attitude, mood, or feel of the video.

  • Pace, meaning the speed at which it moves.

  • Rhythm, the timing between the cuts.

  • Style, meaning how it all comes together, the techniques used, the visual aesthetic, the use of music, the influence of the pace and rhythm, and so forth.

Techniques:

  • Type of cut being made, e.g., a standard cut or a jump cut, which moves the narrative forward or back in time

  • Transitions, e.g., cross dissolves and fades

  • Montagues
